A training course for 1st and 2nd grade physical education teachers was held in Torbole to bring the school world closer to sailing. Promoters of the Italian Sailing Federation XIV Zona, the Department of Education and CONI Trento

A beautiful sunny and windy day on Garda Trentino welcomed thirty-two teachers from the Province of Trento of the 1st and 2nd grade Institutes, who accepted the invitation to take part in the refresher course with the theme "sailing", organised at Circolo Vela Torbole. Since the connection between sport and the world of Rodolfo Bergamaschi school as President of the XIV FIV Lake Garda and Trentino Alto Adige Area is becoming increasingly important, Prof. Giuseppe Cosmi, coordinator of Physical and Sports Education of the Autonomous Province of Trento proposed this course with the aim of bringing teachers closer to the discipline of sailing in order to make it more and more widely known and practised in schools.

"The goal is part of the initiatives that want to lead to the creation of the Student Championships, but which take into account the territorial feasibility, as is the case with Lake Garda and the schools that can come not only to Lake Garda, but also to the other lakes in Trentino" explained Cosmi on the sidelines of the initiative.

"This course is intended to further improve the school's initiatives towards the world of sailing, an exchange of training proposals that has already brought concrete results, such as Trentino Alto Adige's victory in the Student Championships, sailing speciality, in the last 3 years. On this occasion the instructor trainers provided by the Sailing Federation have been of great importance with Fabrizio Lazzerini, Laser class coach of the Circolo Vela Torbole, who has won many international podiums and Santiago Lopez instructor, motor science teacher and athletic trainer of the Italian Zonal Sailing Federation, as well as the Finnish national youth team. "We have more and more athletes who, having a school activity to carry on, but also a high level of competition, are followed by tutor teachers, who help them to overcome the absences due to racing trips; occasions like this update are also useful to make teachers accountable for the necessary commitment on the part of the youngsters and consequently to confront each other in order to try to find solutions closer and closer to the athletes" the comment of the President of Zona FIV Rodolfo Bergamaschi.

The teachers' feedback has shown enthusiasm and desire to expand the activities related to sailing: Professor Carla Soriani, teacher at the secondary school of Vigolo Vattaro, explained that it is important to bring children closer to all the environments of Trentino and therefore also to the lake, which has some wonderful features; it is important not only to propose new activities such as sailing, but also to be able to expand the offer by giving continuity, as well as bring more children on board. During the course it was very interesting to be able to experience both the practical aspect on board a cabin cruiser, learning the basic manoeuvres, and to understand the importance of collaboration between crew members, a very educational element for young people.

At the same time, the more specific theme of athletic preparation was addressed. Marisa Dalla Betta, teacher at the Tambosi Institute in Trento: "I found the theoretical part related to physical preparation very interesting, because too often it is underestimated before performing a discipline, even like sailing or any water sport. I find it interesting to make children aware of the importance of athletic preparation. As an institute we often take the children to Lake Caldonazzo to do activities; certainly the windy conditions of Lake Garda require more attention from an athletic point of view with the need for greater strength and determination. Finally, I believe that sailing is an excellent opportunity to take the children out of the virtual reality that they often live, having an experience in the open air, where group activity leads to sociality and introspection that becomes an excellent resource for the children".
