Halloween Cup Optimist

News and Communications

At Circolo Vela Torbole the Optimist regattas of the Halloween Cup began with a dozen nations present. Balance among the juniors with the first three in 1 point; among the cadets in the lead Artur Brighenti

After the first day, when the wind from the south did not enter despite the fact that the fleet was ready at 12:00 noon on the starting line, on Saturday morning at 7:30 the Torbole Sailing Club was already animated by very young helmsmen, who wanted to be at one of the last international Optimist regattas of the season, in accordance with all the regulations and attention imposed by the health situation: the Halloween Cup. This time, the morning's morning rush was rewarded with a beautiful north wind that initially blew even at 20-25 knots, so much so that the Race Committee initially called only the fleet of the greatest juniors (11-15 years old) to the start. With the stretch of Lake Garda in Trentino still in the shade, the fleet of 150 sailors divided into two batteries started racing on time at 8:30 a.m. between splashes of water and waves, which made the two regattas that they regularly raced in quick succession spectacular. As happened on Friday, the north wind, despite being strong, dropped rather early, so much so that the cadets (aged between 9 and 10 years) - called into the water a little later - were able to finish just one race before the wind dropped completely. Fortunately the wind from the south turned rather quickly, despite the autumn season, lasting in the early afternoon enough time to continue with the race programme and conclude the third and final round of the day for the juniors and continue with two more trials for the cadets, who certainly had less demanding conditions in the afternoon and within everyone's reach, given the wind intensity which remained at a maximum of 5-6 knots.

Extreme balance between the juniors (at least until the gap with the fourth race) led by the Swede Bernhardtz (1-1-8), but only one point behind the two rivals (Fraglia Vela Riva) Alex Demurtas (4-2-4) and Lorenzo Ghirotti (3-3-5). Much more distant was the Irish Rocco Wright, who after two first places placed a 19 in the light wind test. The German Muhlerhauser is in the lead in the women's category, sixteenth overall. She is confirming her position as one of the most complete helmsmen in the cadet category Artur Brighenti (CN Brenzone), leading with 3 points ahead of Mattia Benamati (FV Malcesine) - also one of the most aggressive in the category - and 11 ahead of Leonardo Grossi (Fraglia Vela Riva). Excellent fourth overall and first female Irene Faina (Fraglia Vela Malcesine, 16-4-2).

Also on Sunday, last day of the Halloween Cup, races will be start in the morning with first warning signal probably at 8:00 am.
