Final Results of the Torbole ILCA Spring Cup

News and Communications

Between rain, a few rays of sunshine and wind that blew for very short periods, the first international regatta of the ILCA class ended on Garda Trentino, officially opening the season of great sailing on the lake.

A difficult weekend from the weather point of view on Garda Trentino, but - in spite of this - sailing clubs such as Circolo Vela Torbole, the protagonist of the first international event on the calendar, was not discouraged and completed the first event with excellent participation from abroad and three races for Ilca 7.
The "Torbole ILCA Spring Cup", an event that aims to become a classic in the years to come, with both the women's and men's Olympic singles of the ILCA class, formerly the Laser, was attended by almost 140 participants, which in three days, through rain, a few rays of sunshine and little wind, managed to contest 2 or 3 races, depending on the class. An overall positive result despite the lack of luck with the weather. From now on, the sailing and windsurfing regatta season will gradually thicken with events that will attract the best Italian athletes, but also the first foreign teams, who - following the regulations in force - will be able to return to Lake Garda to train and race

At Circolo Vela Torbole, the three days of racing got the organisational machine of the club chaired by Mauro Versini up and running again, and from now on the club will continue to offer not only sporting, but also social and educational activities. They were certainly three complicated days in the management of the races on the water for the Race Committee, which had very few windows of wind and remained many hours in the water, often in the rain, to find the best time to start the competitors. European Champion Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini with three firsts won the major category Ilca 7, ahead of Dimitri Peroni (Fraglia Vela Malcesine, 5-2-2) and Cesare Barabino, first under 21 (YC Olbia, 2-4-3). Special prize to Attilio Boroni, the youngest of the fleet in this category. In the ILCA 6 class (ex Radial) the women's victory went to Gintare Scheidt (Olympic silver medallist in the same class in Beijing 2008), followed by Chiara Benini Floriani (Fraglia Vela Riva) and Joyce Floridia.
In the Under 19 category, victory for the Circolo Vela Torbole athlete Carlotta Rizzardi and for Francesco Novelli (Fraglia Vela Malcesine). The men's Ilca 6 podium saw Circolo Vela Torbole's Filippo Baldini on the top step, followed by Filipp Zeno Massironi (CN Bardolino) and Lorenzo Predari (FV Malcesine). Among the youngsters in the Ilca 4 class, Lorenzo Bartoli (CN Bardolino) won, Slovenian Zabukovec was second and first under 16 and Lorenzo Fonda (CV Muggia) third.
