The 46th edition of the Optimist d'Argento Trophy, the classic early summer regatta for young Optimist sailors organized by the Circolo Vela Torbole by delegation of the Italian Sailing Federation, got off to a great start in Torbole. After the Olympic and America's Cup champions met at the Italian Open Moth Championship, it's time to go back to the roots, to the boat from which many of the great champions hosted last week began: the Optimist. In fact, the Silver Optimist Trophy, scheduled until Saturday, June 26th, will start on Thursday, with the participation of about 350 helmsmen from about thirty nations. This edition sees the new generation of tomorrow's sailing in the water, which was welcomed by Garda Trentino with a spectacular day with clear skies, 14-knot winds and three races completed with regularity.
Among the youngest of Division A (cadets, 9-10 years old) in the lead the local Andrea Demurtas, who with two firsts and a fifth is in a tie with Jasper Karlsen; in third place Addam Brighenti. First female Irene Faini, seventh overall. As for the juniors - Division B - it's Ireland in the lead with Rocco Wright, protagonist of a fourth and two firsts; second the American James Pine (1-2-6) and third the Ukrainian Madonich, who after two firsts scored a tenth. First Italian, in fourth place, Alberto Avanzini, while the first female was the Thai Khunboonjan. For the colors of the Circolo vela Torbole good provisional tenth place for Erik Scheidt.
