International youth sailing is busy until Saturday at Circolo Vela Torbole, with one of the oldest regattas organized on the Alto Garda: the 46th Optimist d'Argento Trophy-7th Turazza Trophy. Started on Thursday with a beautiful day of sun and wind, Friday another perfect day from the point of view of weather and wind, conditions that allowed the dispute of three more tests and the inclusion of the discard. Among the youngest cadets, Division A, Jesper Karlsen (CV Maderno) took the lead for only one point against Artur Brighenti (CN Brenzone), redeemed in the last trials with a 4-1-1; third his cousin Addam Brighenti. First female again Irene Faini (FV Malcesine), sixth overall. As for the older (11-15 years old) of the Division B Juniores first positions played again by the same protagonists of the first day: in the lead the Ukrainian Madonich, second the Irish Wright and third the American James Pine, followed by his compatriot Hackel and the Brazilian De Francesco. First Italian Alberto Avanzini (CN Bardolino), seventh, followed at eighth by Alex Demurtas (Fraglia Vela Riva), recovering in the first two races of the day (3-2), but penalized by an early start in the sixth race. Always in the lead the Thai Khunboonjan among the females. Saturday conclusion with three possible races and the fleet divided into gold, silver and bronze: the assignment of the Silver Optimist Trophy will be assigned to the club with the best 4 classified juniors, while the Silver Optimist Cadet Trophy will be assigned to the club with the best 2 classified cadets. In the evening the Circolo Vela Torbole hosted the elective assembly of the Italian Optimist Class Association, which had the emotionally difficult task of electing a new secretary, given that just 15 days ago Norberto Foletti passed away. Norberto Foletti dedicated most of his life to sailing and to Optimist in particular, and was its secretary for decades. Walter Cavallucci, former member of the International World Sailing Federation and Team leader of the Italian Optimist team at the last three World Championships, won by Italy with Marco Gradoni, was unanimously elected. During the assembly also the FIV President Francesco Ettorre intervened via web, who recalled Foletti's passion and commitment for the very young of the Optimist class, nursery of the national sailing.
