Good start for over 500 racers in Torbole

News and Communications

Sunshine and winds of 12-15 knots for the first two races. Robert Scheidt starts with two firsts; Italians do well in the Ilca 4 and 6

The first day of racing for the over 500 sailors enrolled in the 2nd International Torbole Spring Cup, the fourth stage of the Eurocup of the Ilca class (former Laser) organised by Circolo Vela Torbole in collaboration with Circolo Vela Arco, Consorzio Garda Trentino Vela and Federazione Italiana Vela began with the classic and magical conditions of Garda Trentino: a southerly wind of 12-15 knots, sunshine and many young people ready to compete in the former Laser single, which for senior women and men represents the Olympic single boat.

A great event for Garda Trentino, which - after 2019 - will once again host a leg of the Eurocup together with the second edition of the International Torbole Spring Cup. A lot of Italy in the top 10 positions of the Ilca 4 class (the youngest with reduced sail) after the first two races. In the lead was Cassitta (3rd under 16 at the European Ilca 4 in 2021) followed by Centazzo (fresh winner of the Easter Meeting in Malcesine) and Salvatore Falchi in that order. In the Ilca6 category, the Olympic women's category, the focus is on the many Italian and local athletes in the top positions, all potentially podium contenders. After the first two trials among the males and overall, Antonio Pascali (under 17) is leading ahead of the 2021 World Champion Mattia Cesana and the French -first among the women- Louise Cervera. Well done the locals Carlotta Rizzardi (Circolo Vela Torbole) and Chiara Benini Floriani (Riva del Garda, Fiamme Gialle) as well as the other Trentino girl (Pergine, Circolo Vela Torbole) Federica Cattarozzi currently second third and fourth in her category. In the men's Olympic Ilca 7 it is the Brazilian legend (who, however, lives and trains in Torbole) Robert Scheidt (7 Olympics and 5 medals) who proves his class: two partial victories and his infinite passion for sailing and regattas, make the young sailors sweat, but in Scheidt they have a great example of an athlete and champion. Provisional second place went to Croatian Cvinar and third to Italian Pietro Giacomoni.
