WIND THROWS A TANTRUM DURING THE FIRST DAY OF THE UNIQUA 2022 TROPHY

News and Communications

written by Francesca Frazza

A difficult day for the 420 class racers at the Uniqua Trophy 2022. Unstable wind conditions meant two races for the yellow fleet and only one race for the blue fleet. Tomorrow's schedule calls for the blue fleet to recover the race not sailed today and for the new batteries, created from today's ranking, to then race three more races. In the lead are Camilla Michelini - Margherita Bianca Bonifaccio (LNI Mandello del Lario) and Luca Taglialegne - Silvia Versolatto (Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano).

Torbole sul Garda, 3 June 2022

A first, long day challenged the seventy-five boats that took part in the Uniqua 2022 Trophy, organised by Circolo Vela Torbole for the 420 class. The light and very unstable wind, due to several thunderstorms that hit Lake Garda in the afternoon, gave both the racers and the Race Committee a hard time and made it possible for both fleets to finish the first race and only the yellow fleet to finish the second. The classification at the moment is formed only by the one race run by both fleets, while the finish list of the second race of the yellow fleet has been published separately. In the classification, therefore, we have two first place finishers, Camilla Michelini and Margherita Bianca Bonifacio and Luca Taglialegne and Silvia Versolatto.

Luca and Silvia commented on their first day as follows: "Today we had two races. The first one, with a more stretched out wind and which dropped throughout the race, we won it. The second race was a jackpot, the wind dropped completely and we didn't do so well."

Tomorrow, 4 June 2022, with the first starting signal at 12.30pm, the blue fleet will try to make up for the race not sailed today and thus catch up with the yellow fleet. Following this, the colours based on the batteries formed through today's ranking will be changed directly on the water and the 'new' fleets will race three races. The batteries for day two and the rankings are available on the Racing Rules of Sailing platform.
