News and Communications
Yesterday, Sunday, June 23, the historic Circolo Vela Torbole celebrated its 60th anniversary in the presence of authorities, members, friends and supporters
The festivities were attended by, among others: the Mayor of the
Municipality of Nago-Torbole Gianni Morandi, Deputy Mayor of the
Municipality of Nago-Torbole Sara Balduzzi, President of the Trentino
Provincial CONI Paola Mora, President of Garda Dolomiti Azienda per il
Turismo S.p.A. Silvio Rigatti, President of Circolo Vela Torbole Mauro
Versini, Honorary President of Circolo Vela Torbole Gianfranco Tonelli,
and one of the founding members of the Circolo Giovanni Bertamini.
"Circolo Vela Torbole was born sixty years ago thanks to those ten visionaries who strongly believed in sailing and the potential of a place that later became the 'conca d'oro.' Over the years the club has expanded more and more, thanks to the tenacity and will to do of the people: I have seen the great commitment of the volunteers of the club who, day after day, have wanted to give more and more to this sport as well as to our lake"-said Nago-Torbole Municipality Mayor Gianni Morandi.
"Over the years so many people, with great hard work and passion, have had the honor and burden of making this club, now recognized worldwide, live and grow. The Club has gone through times of great historical change, yet has managed to adapt thanks to the resilience of all volunteers, starting with the president and the board. In addition to the countless competitive awards, the organization of major sporting events, and the athletes who have grown up in the club, the club is also credited with giving wonderful experiences to the children who have participated in sailing courses over the years, turning them into true sportsmen and women in life. Sixty years of this deserves the gratitude not only of the sports world but also of the entire community," - said Trentino Provincial CONI President Paola Mora.
Among this year's regattas, Circolo Vela Torbole stands out for organizing events such as the Optimist d'Argento, the 69F Cup, and the upcoming World Youth Sailing Championships (July 12-20), which will be held at all circles of the Garda Trentino Vela Consortium, namely Fraglia Vela Riva, Lega Navale di Riva, Circolo Vela Arco, Circolo Surf Torbole, and Circolo Vela Torbole itself, and at Fraglia Vela Malcesine.

The
important milestone of Circolo Vela Torbole, the second longest-lived
club in Garda Trentino after Fraglia Vela Riva, is a testament to the
long-standing tradition of the area's sailing clubs: last year, in fact,
Circolo Vela Arco celebrated 40 years of activity and Associazione Vela
Lago di Ledro 60, while in 2028 it will be Fraglia Vela Riva's turn to
celebrate its 100th anniversary.
"This is a very important
year to celebrate our club's 60th anniversary milestone. We are in the
Olympic year, in the year of the 37th edition of the America's Cup but
not only that: for the first time in Italy, the World Youth Sailing
Championships will be held in a few weeks right on our Lake Garda. All
this has been made possible also thanks to the important support of the
Autonomous Province of Trento and the Garda Dolomiti Tourist Board, and I
can't help but be very excited about all this," - said Circolo Vela
Torbole President Mauro Versini.
Founded on June 23, 1964 under the presidency of Antonio Bertamini, Circolo Vela Torbole managed to obtain official recognition from the Italian Sailing Federation just three years later, effectively entering the world of racing and competition.
Over the years, Circolo Vela Torbole has thus become a nautical center of such national and international importance, with regattas and sailing events of the highest level, that it has been awarded by CONI Trento with important sports merit awards.

It is no coincidence that, thanks to
its constant commitment, tenacity and enthusiasm, Circolo Vela Torbole
has also become an important training ground of reference for many young
sailors, as well as the home for talented athletes such as European,
rainbow and Olympic champion in the Nacra 17 class and helmsman for the
Luna Rossa team Ruggero Tita, a territorial ambassador, who is leaving
for the Paris Olympics.
"On June 23, 1964, Circolo Vela Torbole was officially born: sixty years later, I like to think of that date as an act of great foresight, a futuristic idea that has since led the Circolo to become the home for thousands of talents, even at the international level, such as Ruggero Tita, who will soon be participating in the Paris Olympics. The Circolo Vela Torbole has represented for all these years a great added value not only for the Municipality of Nago-Torbole, but also for the whole Garda Trentino. Happy 60th birthday...and of course a thank you to all the Presidents and Managing Circles over the decades who have made this dream possible. Good wind to the President, the Members, the athletes and the whole team, I am sure that their great efforts will take the Circle to even higher levels of prestige!" - commented President of Garda Dolomiti Azienda per il Turismo S.p.A. Silvio Rigatti.
